Virginia Home Grown is a local television series on VPM PBS hosted and co-produced by Peggy Singlemann, Owner, RVA Gardener LLC, and Director Emeritus of Horticulture, Maymont Foundation. Co-Hosts include Randy Battle, Amyrose Foll, Serome Hamlin, Jen Naylor, Dr. Robyn Puffenbarger, and Shana Williams. The program provides viewers with gardening tips and studio demonstrations as well as video tours of public and private gardens. The mission of the series is to highlight the unique richness of gardens and natural ecosystems throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and to serve as a resource for the greater community.
Michael Scheff, Director of Dining Services, Jennifer Alexander, Farm Manager, and resident gardeners were interviewed on campus in early March by Serome Hamlin. The day featured a tour of the farm and seedling program, resident interviews, and a special presentation of fresh dishes created by our Executive Chef, Craig Miller, and his culinary team.
The season premiere aired March 28, 2023 highlighting senior gardening at two Virginia retirement communities. Special gardening tools used by the Covenant Woods residents were showcased during the broadcast!
The Farm-to-Table program has been in the spotlight since its inception in 2017. Producing thousands of pounds of vegetables, herbs, and berries each season, our 10,000 square foot garden is one of few on a senior living campus nationwide. Covenant Woods is humbled to have this opportunity to share our story!
