Variety and choice are always on the constantly rotating menus at Covenant Woods’ four dining venues. “I get so much satisfaction from seeing how happy residents get over the food here,” says Mike Scheff, who joined Covenant Woods in 2016 as dining director after two decades managing kitchens at restaurants, country clubs, and retirement communities. “I’ve seen how other communities do food, and we’ve created something here that truly elevates the dining experience. It’s like no other.”
Menus crafted by The Executive Chef and experienced culinary team draw on tastes from around the world and across Virginia. Over the years, residents have offered input that has helped chefs further refine every dish and introduce new spins on timeless classics. Says one resident, who was admittedly skeptical before trying the food: “You won’t go hungry here.”
Covenant Woods’ main dining room was completely renovated in 2018 and offers four daily homemade entrées served buffet style, from scratch sides and desserts, plus a salad and wellness bar featuring over 60 items to choose from. Enjoy craft beer, a wine wall, or private dining experiences in the Private Dining Room.
Grab a quiet table for two or a four-top with friends and enjoy formal restaurant dining. Select from made-to-order dishes – many crafted with ingredients from the community’s own farm-to-table program – and unique takes on classic dishes.
Fireside is your all-day dining and take-out option, set in the cozy wood-walled embrace of The Lodge. Grab drinks from the full bar, watch the big game or Sunday tournament, and eat made-from-scratch waffles for dinner if you so choose – breakfast is served all day.
The Bistro offers grab-and-go options for those times when there isn’t any to sit down. Select from made-to-order sandwiches, salads, soups – plus a full espresso and tea counter.
The Cellar specializes in pairing wines and amazing foods to make a another great destination stop. This is an upscale happy hour and event venue that focuses on quality and presentation. Visiting the Cellar is a slower paced experience where you meet with friends, taste great food and enjoy delicious wines.
The Terrace is designed for al-fresco dining, catering and socializing. This destination features two pergolas including heaters and fans, an outdoor kitchen, mobile bar, fireplace, television, outdoor furnishings and sound system.
Family reunion or friendly gathering? At no cost, residents can reserve the Commons, a nearby event space. We’ll even help you plan the menu.
Meet our Chef, Ron Smith. Chef Ron has been cooking since he was 21 years old and attended Johnson and Wales University for Culinary Arts in Norfolk, Virginia. He gained culinary experience through a variety of top notch restaurants including Executive Sous Chef at The Boar’s Head Resort, Chef de Partie at the five star and five diamond restaurant The Cloister, and Chef de Cuisine at Jekyll Island Club Hotel.
“When choosing a CCRC, we were concerned as to whether or not Covenant Woods’ meals would be up to our standards. Surprisingly, the food is delicious. Covenant Woods has three chefs who are creative and knowledgeable. We both love the pan seared Salmon, Halibut, Gluten Free Acorn squash, and homemade soups. In the summer, most of the specials include vegetables from the Farm to Table Garden. In March, when we were quarantined, the kitchen cooked healthy, creative, and tasty meals which were delivered to our door. Although I am in the minority, I still cook a little but we love having the convenience of riding our elevator to Vistas for fine dining on the terrace or in the spacious dining rooms.”Naomi, resident
The best way to experience Covenant Woods, residents say, is to eat here. Call to set up dinner, lunch, or breakfast and enjoy a freshly prepared meal and great conversation in any of our four dining venues. It’s on the house.
